Friday updates
Fri 07 May 2021Good afternoon all,
I hope all our families have had a good week. We have had a positive learning week this week in school with some good progress being made. Well done all!
At Dovedale we like to keep our children happy and mentally well so we have seen some tai chi and yoga classes over the last couple of weeks with the children really engaging with these experiences. We have also had cricket sessions in school alongside some fantastic science work. Never a dull moment! Don't forget to sign up to our Twitter page to some some examples of what the children have been up to.
On Wednesday we held our Summer 1 Governor's meeting. We are fortunate to have a well informed and supportive team of Governors at Dovedale, supporting our decision making and helping to guide our next steps. Several policies were reviewed, the school budget interrogated and safeguarding actions reviewed amongst other important topics. If you want to find out a little bit more about our Governors check out the Governor's tab on the website.
In response to the restrictions our children are working under we have teamed up our year groups e.g. year 1 with year 5 to give our older children the chance to be role models even though we are restricted to bubbles. This also gives our younger children the chance to write for a purpose. The children are really enjoying the experience of communicating with children who they are only getting to see at a distance.
Next week we will see the start of the installation of our new trim trail. The old one will be removed and replaced with a shiny new one-hopefully all completed by Friday. A massive thanks to our PTA for funding this and for continuing to support the school even though it has been a difficult year for fundraising.
I am sure you are very aware of the outbreak at Wilsthorpe school and how this may progress. I was aware last week that some members of our community were not adhering to the rules as strictly as we would hope. As we have tried so hard I must ask that everyone plays their part in trying to keep our bubbles open and keep everyone safe. It is very clear we are not out of the woods yet - I have heard of some primary classes being closed today in our local area, something which we are desperate to avoid. We do however have several children having tests as per the Wilsthorpe advice for non symptomatic family members to be tested so this may mean that we receive notification of a positive over the next couple of days. I sincerely hope not but I will inform parents of any developments.
I do hope that you all have a lovely weekend and stay safe!

Friday Update
Fri 30 Apr 2021Happy Friday all,
We hope you have all had a good week, we certainly have here in school.
Thank you to the teachers this week for managing the parent's evening's over the phone. It's a tricky way to get across everything they have to say in the allotted time but we have had some great feedback.
If you didn't manage to book a slot please contact your child's class teacher.
Elaine Jones-our community link governor has offered to come in to school to do some small group work to support our well being curriculum. She is well qualified in this area and we are grateful that we have such proactive governors who care about our children's well being as much as we do. This will be around giving the children a voice to express their concerns or worries and will further support our THRIVE and Well being Wednesday work.
Mrs Thorpe has given her class the exciting news that she is expecting a baby in the autumn term. We have appointed a class teacher to cover her maternity leave for the coming year.
I have placed this week's REACH assembly for nominated children under the children's tab - Mrs Houseman's updates.
I'm sure you are aware that it is bank holiday weekend and we will welcome the children back on Tuesday 4th May ( Star Wars jokes pending!)
Keep safe.

Friday update
Fri 23 Apr 2021Happy Friday and Happy St George's day.
I hope you are all well and safe and have been able to enjoy the sunshine a bit.
We have had a good week back here at school with a start on our full curriculum. As a school we have devised our new curriculum using the national curriculum guidelines to support our children's progression through the learning modules from EYFS to year 6. This is a curriculum we have devised as a school and have worked over the past year to monitor and adapt with a view to full implementation in the autumn term once we have a good run of the full term (all fingers crossed). We are very excited that our new curriculum is designed to give our children the best academic, social and moral education that they can throughout their time with us.
Examples of our curriculum design will be updated under the key information tab shortly.
Next Wednesday it is whole class photos. Please remember to send your child in their uniforms and not their PE kits if this is usually their PE day.
I have received several holiday requests this week where families feel they need time away after a difficult year or holidays or events have been rescheduled. I can only authorise holidays within the usual exceptional circumstances guidelines. I realise this is difficult for some people to understand or accept, however many people are in the same situation and if it is a holiday I can't authorise it during term time.
We wish you all a lovely weekend.

Thursday update
Thu 01 Apr 2021Happy Thursday all,
A great week here at school finished off with a very colourful Easter bonnet parade. It was great to see them all parading around outside of the classrooms even though it was a bit cold and windy. Great work all!
I know some pictures are going on our Twitter page so look out for these.
It has been a strange half term-half in-half out but we feel the children have generally coped well with all the changes and we are looking forward to starting the summer term altogether and getting on with our full, new curriculum.
We are hoping that the summer term will bring opportunities for getting together a little more and maybe even holding some events like sport's afternoon!
I know many of you have already signed up for parent's evening-if you are experiencing any trouble with booking your slot please contact your child's class teacher or the school office and we will support you with this.
Please make sure you have completed the RSE consultation questionnaire, the full parent's questionnaire will land after Easter.
We hope you all have a lovely, safe Easter and we look forward to seeing you all on Monday 17th April.

Easter family fun

Safeguarding support
Tue 30 Mar 2021Good morning all,
As we head towards the Easter holidays I wanted to give a few pointers for keeping children and families safe.
It has been a difficult year for everyone and children may exhibit the stresses around this in different ways to adults.
We have found the majority of children have settled well back into the whole class routines however there have been some friendship disputes as a result of new groupings and some children finding the transition back to school routines a little tricky. We are also conscious that some children may be feeling more vulnerable or have created new online friendship groups which could of course put them at risk.
We are of course supporting all children with this in school but I thought you may also appreciate some links to support you and your families over the holidays.
There is also a national understanding that child exploitation in all its forms is on the rise. This can be online as much as face to face so we all need to be as well informed as possible.
The link below takes you to the NSPCC website support for parents. This has a range of information ranging from baby parenting tips to parenting and mental health.

The Think u know link below is specifically aimed at giving parents safeguarding advice for children working and playing online. There are some useful videos to share. There are also some pages for children specifically which parents can go through with them.
The below link offers support and strategies for mental health and well being.

Friday update
Fri 26 Mar 2021Happy Friday every one.
This week has been a busy week with assessments but there has still been time for other activities!
Year 6 received their first aid training, thank you to the PTA for funding this, such important lessons to learn.
Red nose day last Friday raised a whopping £323.38-thank you to all who donated to this worthwhile event.
Don't forget to vote on our competition to win a gazebo-see the post further down the news feed-get your friends and families on board too-every vote counts.
The classes have been tweeting some of the learning activities the children have been doing so don't forget to follow us on twitter-scroll to the bottom of the website front page and click on the blue bird Twitter icon to be taken straight to our page.
Next week is Easter bonnet parade day on Thursday 1st which is the last day of term. Send in your children with their creations and a £1.00 donation (this donation will be used for a future treat for the children for their classrooms), there are prizes for individuals.
Mrs Tomlinson did put out a post for parent's forum next Tuesday but has had very few responses. If you would like a chat and share your views and suggestions please contact her to join the forum.
We have a lot of children off this week with various illnesses. Please continue to be vigilant and get your child tested if in any doubt. I'd like us to get through to Easter with all children not in isolation!
I hope you all have a great weekend.
Stay safe.

Friday updates
Fri 19 Mar 2021Happy Friday everyone,
A lovely busy week here at Dovedale although we have missed all of our EYFS children who we look forward to welcoming back on Monday.
It was lovely to see all the different choices today on non school uniform day and we thank you for all the donations for this worthy cause-I will update you on monies raised once counted.
On Thursday 1st April we will hold an Easter Bonnet celebration. Children can bring in their bonnets for a £1.00 donation and we will organise a parade to show all children through their classroom windows. The PTA have kindly donated Easter eggs as prizes. It would be lovely to end the term on a colourful note and we look forward to all of the children's creations.
I hope you all have a lovely weekend.

Shade sail competition
Tue 16 Mar 2021Help Us to Win a Shade Sail!
It’s competition time at Dovedale Primary School as A&S Landscape, a supplier of school canopies, is giving away a shade sail to one school. In our EYFS area we have had to take down our gazebo area as it was condemned. This space was used for outside learning and play activities when the weather was challenging. It extended the available space for our children-something which is vitally important for EYFS children but particularly at this time when we know that children have been cooped up due to lock down restrictions -negatively impacting on their physical health and wellbeing.
To win this competition we have to collect the most votes! You can click here to vote for our school.Once you have voted, please spread the message on friends, parents and supplier’s websites as well as social media to help us win!
