  • Friday update

    Fri 03 Sep 2021 S Houseman

    Happy Friday all!

Well that flew by. What a delight it has been to have the children back in school. As detailed in the letter sent earlier in the week we have still got precautionary systems in place but we are definitely feeling more 'normal' and are hopeful this will continue.

We are aware there are some covid cases in our school community and because of this we will not be holding our 'meet the teacher' in school next week as planned. At this stage I think filling a room with adults may be a little fool hardy as we are very keen to keep all staff and children well and school open for all children. The online meet the teacher videos are still in the class pages and there will be a parent's evening in October ( at this point we intend to hold this face to face as these are individual appointments.) If you need to speak with your class teacher prior to this please contact them directly and arrange a meeting. They will be happy to arrange a face to face meeting with you individually.

As you are aware the guidance now states that children who have been in close contact with a positive case do not need to isolate or stay off school. I know that some parents may choose/have chosen to keep their children off if they have been a close contact and we respect all individual choice at this transition time.

    In other news!

We are very keen this year to harness the skills and interests of our children to reengage them after the disrupted year. We therefore want to run some activities to support their interests: for example gardening club, science workshops, coding workshops, book clubs, an environmental group... (the list goes on). If you or someone you know (grandparent etc) would love to get involved and share time and expertise (or just enthusiasm) then please contact us to discuss. We know there are a lot of skills out there in our parent group and we would love to share these with the children.

The forecast for the coming week looks quite warm and sunny so hats and sun cream may be required.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend!

    Fri 16 Jul 2021 S Houseman

    Happy Friday all,

I hope you have all had a good week. It has been a lovely week here at school with the start of the end of year celebrations well under way.

I am hoping you have all received a carnival letter from the PTA -either in your child's book bag or by email for our new starters. The carnival is on the 18th September and as a school we love to take part. If you are able to come along it really is a lovely event and we like to go all out to take part in the parade. If you return your slips we will then allocate block colours for the children to wear -we're making a rainbow amongst other things.

Do check out your child's new class page for the meet the teacher videos. We will be having one in school  in September, restrictions permitting.

Every year the school is required to take 5 INSET days for staff continuing professional development.

The INSET days for next year have been set as:

    Wednesday  1st September

    Monday       1st November

    Monday       28th February

    Friday          27th May

    Friday          8th July

There is also an extra day allocated for the Jubilee on Monday 6th June when school will be closed.

These can also be found on the calendar.

I have posted a link below which is about supporting your child when working from home. Although I am hoping that this will be redundant now ( it has only just been published) it has some useful ideas about creating a space, adjusting fonts and screen colours and best positioning to support posture. I thought it might be useful regardless of lockdowns.

As we head in to our final week we are continuing to follow previous guidance and are really hopeful that we will all head into the summer holidays without any more lock downs. Thank you for your support with this.

    Have a lovely weekend

  • Friday update

    Fri 09 Jul 2021 S Houseman

    Good afternoon all,

I would like to start with a big thank you to the PTA for supplying us with a portable sound system which we have been able to use today and are looking forward to using for many events in the coming year. Again supporting all the children.

We have been informed by catering that they are looking for relief staff in the kitchen. If anyone is interested look on the Derbyshire County Council website in the jobs' section.

Following the recent announcement and checking the guidance we will continue to stay in our bubbles till the end of term. As some of you may be aware we have had to close a bubble for the first time this week in a long time and we really would like all our children to go home for the summer holidays without having to isolate. This is one measure we can continue to take to reduce any potential spread.

We are planning to revert fully in September to 'normal' class organisation and start and finish times.

Miss Martin has put some information under the THRIVE tab with summer activities. These are really helpful to support you and your children so do take a look.

    Prospectus

I have updated the prospectus and put it on the website for parent's information.

Although it was different the children all enjoyed their Sport's day and showed good sportsmanship. We hope that next year we will all be together again!

Have a good weekend, hopefully the sun will shine and a special something will be coming home!

  • Friday update

    Tue 22 Jun 2021 S Houseman

    Happy Friday,

I hope you have all had a good week.

We started our week with a visit from Sam Oldham, the England squad gymnast, which the children were super excited about.

I have put some information under the key info tab on the website -safeguarding - in online safeguarding about keeping children safe whilst playing Fortnite. It has some useful information.

A reminder that children can only bring mobile phones to school if they need them when walking to or from school for their own safety and these will be kept secure until the end of the day. Once on school grounds children should not be on their phones. Thank you for your understanding with this.

We have completed our risk assessments to allow the children to move around to meet their new teachers next week as we feel this is an important element to enable the children to transition happily. They will go to their new classrooms on Thursday for an hour.

We will be posting online 'meet the teacher' powerpoints for parents on the 9th July in new class pages. We are planning to hold a meet the teacher in person on September 8th at 3.30 for parents. (This is assuming restrictions are lifted).

    PE uniform

For clarity about the PE uniform for September as I've had a couple of queries..

We are asking for a red t shirt, black joggers or leggings and a black sports type hoodie/jacket. All should be picture free except for the school logo where applicable.

Shorts should be of an appropriate length.

Our stockists are Just Schoolwear and Myclothing.com. We are waiting for them to let us know if they can supply the hoodie/jacket but you should be able to find everything else fairly easily.

    Hope this helps.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend.

  • Friday update

    Fri 18 Jun 2021 S Houseman

Happy Friday everyone - although the weather is less than sunny!

There is a letter from the PTA under the news and events tab - letters home. The annual general meeting is taking place on Monday 28th at 7.30 and you are invited to attend. The PTA is a valued part of our school community, supporting activities for the children and raising funds for the school. Please consider joining us and making a difference to the children and the school community.

Please see the letter for more details.

Wrap club has spaces for the summer holiday if any parent needs child care. The club is running for the full 6 weeks this summer.

It would appear that numbers of infection are rising again and although we are hopeful that most people affected will not now be too ill, the prevalence seems to be in younger children from 4 to 12 and young adults. We do therefore need to continue to be cautious as we don't want any of our little people becoming ill. We are continuing to follow all guidance and asking for support where necessary.

Please remember no dogs are allowed on school premises or to be tied to school railings. Thank you for your consideration with this.

There is a letter detailing family THRIVE sessions under the news and events tab-letters home. As a school THRIVE is a valued part of our well being offer and parents can access this course to support them with a wide range of issues or just to find out a little bit more about the program itself. Please see the letter for more details.

Thank you to all parents who have taken on board the PE kit request. Our PE kit is available from our stockists and we ask that you bear this in mind when renewing any school uniforms. From September we ask that the pe kit is a red t shirt with black shorts or joggers. Shorts should be an appropriate length -if lycra type shorts these must be mid thigh length. As the children now come in their kits-something which we will continue in September as it has positively impacted on active time-kits must be seen as part of school uniform and should be smart and appropriate. This will also mean that once we are able to start participating in events and competitions the children will all be identifiable and smartly representing our school.

On tuesday we took part in the young voices biggest sing. Go to twitter to see some pictures of this.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend and I hope the football tonight is a win!

(in the interests of inclusivity I'm not saying who for. ;D

  • Friday update

    Fri 11 Jun 2021 S Houseman

    Good afternoon all,

I hope you have all had a lovely week.

We have had a great week back at school.

As the weather looks set to be lovely for the coming week please remember to send your child with their water bottle and a hat. Sun cream can be applied at the start of the day if it looks like it will be particularly sunny. Cream can be kept in the child's book bag if they are able to be responsible to apply it. Please contact your child's teacher if you need support with this.

As we are waiting on the Covid update on Monday can I ask that we continue to wear masks on drop off and pick up? We are pretty used to this now and although it isn't compulsory I think it helps people to feel more comfortable or confident. We are all very ready for restrictions to be lifted but just need to keep on our guard for a little longer.

Once we know what the guidelines are for the rest of the summer term we will give you further information as to our plans.

The children looked great in their non uniform outfits today and I thank you on behalf of the PTA for your donations - they will be put to good use.

Don't forget to check out our Twitter page to see what the classes have been up to. Lots of lovely activities!

I hope you all have a lovely weekend and enjoy more sunshine.

    Take care.

  • Euro dress down/up day

    Wed 02 Jun 2021 S Houseman

    Good morning all,

I hope you are able to enjoy the sun this week.

On Friday 11th June (first Friday back) the PTA are holding a dress up for Euros day.

For a £1 donation your child can wear the colours of their favourite team, a football kit or anything representing one of the countries.

It has been a difficult year for fundraising this year and with several projects on the horizon I am sure we will all enjoy supporting this day.

Have a good rest of the week.

  • Weekly update

    Thu 27 May 2021 S Houseman

    Happy Thursday all.

A reminder that tomorrow and Monday 7th June are INSET days.

Can I ask that all children have an appropriate pe kit in school. Kits should be school colours with limited logos and not slogans. This is no change to our usual requirements and is detailed in the school prospectus. This also applies to general school uniform. Trousers not jeans and school shoes.

Miss Martin has placed some THRIVE well being support activities on the website under the THRIVE tab - May half term-Do have a look at these as they are helpful for a range of issues.

I have attached some pictures of our fantastic new trim trail which was paid for by our marvellous PTA. The support we receive from this group enables us to buy things for the children which would otherwise be beyond our budget. To make a real difference to our school and the children please consider joining the PTA for the coming year.

I hope you all have a lovely, sunny half term.

  • Friday update

    Fri 21 May 2021 S Houseman

Happy Friday all! Even though it is looking a it wet and windy!

I hope all our families are keeping well.

Can I ask that your child does not bring a fidget 'toy' to school unless this has been agreed with the teacher for a specific reason.

These 'toys' are designed to relieve stress and anxiety but can also cause a distraction if they are not monitored with ground rules established. If your child needs this your child's class teacher will have a discussion with you. Please contact the class teacher if you need to discuss this further.

We are currently advertising for a cook for our Summer WRAP around club, details can be found in our vacancies section. The hours are variable and only over the summer holiday.

    Online safety

As children are spending more and more time accessing games online or communicating with friends make sure as a parent that you are checking their communications regularly and using services such as Net Nanny to prevent any unwanted material popping up. Apps like Snapchat have a location feature which allows users to see where the other user is. This should be switched off to keep your child safe if they are using this app.

Next week is a 4 day week for the children with Friday 28th being an INSET day.

I hope you all have a lovely safe weekend.
