Welcome to Autumn 2
We will be shifting focus from history to geography this half term. Our learning will focus on volcanoes and the impact they have on their surroundings as well as where they are located around the world, how they form and what causes an eruption. We will be doing lots of flashback learning as we learn about the event at Pompeii in the Roman era and the evidence left behind. In science we will be studying animals including humans and the stages of life. We will be asking questions about how our bodies change and how this affects us.
In English lessons we will be completing some news articles and refining skills learnt so far in year 5. Fractions will be a focus in maths, as we navigate our way through adding, subtracting, ordering and finding equivalents of these tricky little customers.
Welcome to autumn 1...
We are very excited to be learning about the Scots and Saxons and how the invasion impacted on Britain. We will be practising skills in researching and investigating different sources of information. Explaining how and why will be a focus for our learning. In mathematics we will kick start the year with place value and number, as well as puzzles and problems to apply these. English lessons will provide lots of exciting challenges whilst we are beginning to investigate what it takes to be a year 5 writer and using our time to learn how to learn, and build on year 4 knowledge. This is just a little snapshot of what we will be doing in class, we can't wait to get started!
