Summer

Welcome to Summer 2

What an incredible year it's been so far...and now we are in the final half term.

Our knowledge block for geography will focus again on our study of the UK. This time we will be concentrating on land use and how the land has been used for different reasons over time. We will spotlight on three major cities: Milton Keynes, Sheffield and Glasgow. The children will have an insight about the Magna museum site and what it respresents for the residents of The Steel City. We will also be comparing coastlines and investigating how climates are different around the UK. Our learning will be rounded of with coming back to mapping skills- going on a local walk and linking what we see to map symbols.

During English lessons we will be revising some key concepts and refining our year 5 skills. We will base lots of our learning around our trip to Magna. We will write stories and recounts using our day out of school as inspiration. As the year comes to a close we will base some of our creative writing on a short film called Wing which will tie into our PSHCE knowledge block.

Welcome to Summer 1

How did we get to the summer term? We can't wait to get started again after having a superb Easter break. We will be doing some post teaching in English sessions in order to polish those year 5 skills we have been developing so far this year. Then we will commence our knowledge block about biographies, learning about Anne Frank and Henry VIII along the way- as well as some other famous (and infamous) people in history.

In science lessons the children will be exploring materials and their properties. This is always a favourite with the children. They will be investigating whether materials are magnetic, insulators or conductors as well as whether they will dissolve  or separate. The Vikings and Saxons will continue to be our focus in history  sessions. We will look more closely at Viking life and how their technical advances meant they became some of the most prolific adventurers, explorers and traders- much more than just raiders!
