Welcome to our final half term!
Are you ready for our final half term everyone? Hold onto your hats!
We will begin by finishing our learning about the Vikings before commencing our knowledge block for geography. We will be focussing on field skills. This is usually a practical area that the children really enjoy. We will be using compasses to navigate our way around the school grounds, as well as investigating map symbols on OS maps and looking at how digital maps can enhance our geographical understanding. We will also be revising grid references and exploring 6 figure grid references. (We can do it!)
English and maths lessons will include lots of consolidation and revision ready for year 6. Lots of creative writing will fill our time, including writing about our trip to magna. We will also be completing some lovely drama lessons.
Welcome to the Summer Term
Wow, we can't believe that we have now entered the final term of the year.
We have lots to cram in this half term so let's have a little snippet of what we will be doing in the classroom...
We will begin the term by doing some post teaching activities in maths and English to make sure we are doing the best we can to have those important skills embedded before the end of the year. We will spend some time looking again at some aspects of learning to gain confidence and build those brain cells.
As the weeks progress we will be starting to investigate biographies in English and have a go out writing our own versions. Lots of our learning will focus on oracy skills and we know the children have really embraced some of the oracy games and strategies that we have introduced.
In science lessons we will be investigating properties of materials and conducting some investigations to test our theories and deepen our understanding. In history we will complete our Saxons & Vikings Knowledge block by focussing on Viking life, society and technology... We will question what we already think we know about them and explore how artefacts have given historians clues about their beliefs and how they used stories.
