Welcome to Year 6
Opal Class!
No two opals are the same, which describes the adults and children in opal class brilliantly. We are all unique with different talents and strengths - making opal class a diverse and exciting place to be!
The teaching team this year comprises of: Mrs Kelly, Mrs Jepson and Mrs Mulnier. Our midday supervisor is Mrs Clark.
We are excited to work with you all and hope to create lots of wonderful memories in what is your final year at primary school!

Spring 1 - Our learning.
English - We will begin our new class novel: Where the Mountain Meets the Moon by Grace Lin. Much of our english work will be based around the story and we will continue to develop our SPaG and comprehension skills.
Maths - In maths we will be focusing on fractions, decimals and percentages and algebra later on in the half term. We will also continue to develop our mental arithmetic and problem solving skills.
Geography - Throughout Geography this half term, we will be learning about Asia and China.
Computing - This half term we will be learning about programming and selection in quizzes.
RE - Our knowledge block for this half term explores the differences in believing in Ahimsa (harmlessness), Grace and Ummah (community).
Science - We will complete our work about light and then go on to study animals including humans.
PSHCE - Our PSHCE this half term centres around 'changes'. We will investigate how our emotions and actions change at different times in our lives, discuss that this is normal and explore the impacts these can have on others.
Spanish - Our focus this half term is 'En la Ciudad' - 'around town'.
ART- We will complete our cookery unit and then explore Batik - A traditional art form which involves using wax and dye on fabric to create beautiful patterns.
PE - Wednesday and Thursday are our PE sessions for this half term. Outdoor PE on Wednesday (please wrap up warm!) and Indoor PE on Thursdays.
Knowledge Organisers.
These are linked to the knowledge blocks we are learning and include important key facts the children need to know and refer to in their work.
Homework.
Homework will be set weekly on a Friday. It will then need to be completed and in school the following Friday or before.
A piece or English or maths will be set each week. It maybe a paper based task or an online activity. Paper based activities will be stuck into homework books. Children will be given login details for online tasks.
Reading - Children are expected to read 3 times a week either to an adult or to themselves. This needs to be recorded in the children's planners. Planners and reading books need to be in school every day. Children will be rewarded for reading three times each week with merits and entry into the reading raffle.
Timestables - These are vital to progress in maths. Children are expected to practice tables using TT Rockstars at home regularly.
Spellings - These are set each Friday and then tested the following Friday. Again, these are vital to children's progress in English and in improving their vocabulary and quality of their writing.
Spellings.
All children will be given a copy of this overview in the first full week of term. It will be stuck into their planners.
Some children will be given personalised spellings in the first full week back.
