Welcome to Coral Class!
A very warm welcome to our class of Year 6 children taught by Mr McCarthy. We are fortunate enough this year to be joined by a wonderful team of supporting adults. The fantastic Mrs Read and Mrs Mulnier will support us as teaching assistants and we are lucky to have the lovely Miss Woods as our Midday Supervisor.

Spring 1 - Our learning.

Maths - In maths we will be focusing on algebra, coordinates and how we use a protractor to measure angles. We also learn how to calculate angles in shapes. In addition to this, we will continue to develop our mental arithmetic and problem solving skills.
History - We will be exploring the Industrial Revolution and its impact on the world including Long Eaton. We will learn about Richard Arkwright and technological inventions around the time.
Computing - This half term we will be learning about spreadsheets.
RE - This half term we will be investigating whether it is best to express your religion in arts and architecture or through charity and generosity.
Science - We will complete our work about animals including humans and then begin our work on evolution.
PSHCE - Our work this half term will centre around 'being safe'. This will include work about increased responsibility as the children move onto secondary school and road and online safety.
Spanish - Our focus this half term is 'Los Transportes' - 'transport'.
ART- Linking nicely with our history knowledge block, we will be focussing on the work of L.S. Lowry
PE - Thursday and Fridays are our PE sessions for this half term. Outdoor PE on Friday (please wrap up warm!) and Indoor PE on Thursdays.
Knowledge Organisers
Homework.
Homework will be set weekly on a Friday. It will then need to be completed and in school the following Friday or before.
A piece or English or maths will be set each week. It maybe a paper based task or an online activity. Paper based activities will be stuck into homework books. Children will be given login details for online tasks.
Reading - Children are expected to read 3 times a week either to an adult or to themselves. This needs to be recorded in the children's planners. Planners and reading books need to be in school every day. Children will be rewarded for reading three times each week with merits and entry into the reading raffle.
Times tables - These are vital to progress in maths. Children are expected to practice tables using TT Rockstars at home regularly.
Spellings - These are set each Friday and then tested the following Friday. Again, these are vital to children's progress in English and in improving their vocabulary and quality of their writing.
Spellings.
All children will be given a copy of this overview in the first full week of term. It will be stuck into their planners.
Some children will be given personalised spellings in the first full week back.
