Spring

SPRING TERM

It is hard to believe that we have already reached the end of the term.

Following the December assessments, the coming weeks will focus on revisiting and consolidating key skills. By strengthening the fundamentals, we aim to build confidence, deepen understanding, and ensure that any gaps in learning are well and truly addressed.

In English, pupils will revise core skills such as punctuation and the use of parentheses. We will also revisit homophones and spelling patterns, including words with silent letters. In mathematics, learning will continue to focus on fractions, with clear links made to decimals and percentages.

Our new science topic, Earth and Space, is always a firm favourite. Children will explore concepts such as night and day, the Earth’s orbit around the Sun, and the Moon’s orbit around the Earth. There will also be opportunities to investigate the solar system, an area that consistently sparks curiosity and enthusiasm.

In geography, we will begin our UK knowledge block. This includes learning about the countries that make up the United Kingdom, identifying key physical features such as rivers, mountains, and national parks, and developing essential skills such as map reading and using compass directions.

During PSHCE sessions, pupils will explore emotions and how they can sometimes be difficult to identify. We will discuss how emotions affect us, how they can overlap, and why experiencing challenging or conflicting emotions is a normal part of life. Children will also learn strategies to help themselves manage and resolve difficult situations. Please take a moment to review the knowledge organiser below to familiarise yourself with the concepts that will be covered in class.
