Welcome to Spring 2
Spring has finally arrived...and we have a lot to achieve in this short half term. We cannot wait to get going with our learning!
We will be continuing our learning about the Saxons this half term, with a focus on society and debating whether Alfred was really 'Great'. We will be investigating Saxon views on the Viking raids by exploring evidence and what this can and cannot tell us as historians. In science lessons the focus will shift to properties of materials. We think the children will enjoy investigating and testing whether materials are thermal and/ or electrical conductors or insulators. We will also explore how to separate materials by filtration, evaporation, magnetic attraction and sieving.
In PSHCE lessons the learning will focus on SRE (sex and relationship education). We will build on some of the work already covered in science about puberty and look more closely at the reproductive system. There is a lot of new vocabulary for children to explore and, as always, this will be conducted carefully- according to the curriculum. Please have a look at the Knowledge Organiser below.
Welcome to Spring 1
Wow, we cannot believe we have already completed a term!
In the months following assessments in December, we will be spending some time revising and consolidating key skills. Our aim is to focus on the basics so we can build our knowledge whilst ensuring any gaps in understanding are ACED. ![]()

During English we will be revising core skills such as punctuation and parenthesis. We will also be re-visiting homophones and spelling words with silent letters. In maths we will be continuing to build our knowledge of fractions, making links to decimals and percentages.
Earth and Space is the new focus for learning in science- always a huge crowd pleaser! The children will investigate concepts such as night and day and how the Earth orbits the Sun, whilst the moon orbits the Earth. Exploring the solar system will also be an area that the children will enjoy delving into. During geography lessons we will begin our UK study knowledge block. This involves investigating which countries make up the UK, looking at physical features such as rivers and mountains as well as national parks. Skills such as using compass directions and map reading will be practiced throughout to ensure children build confidence and knowledge.
In PSHCE sessions we will be exploring how emotions can sometimes be difficult to 'label', how they affect us and how emotions overlap. We will also discuss how experiencing difficult or conflicting emotions are okay and that we can learn to help ourselves to resolve situations. Please have a look at the knowledge organiser below to familiarise yourself with the concepts we will be discussing in class.
