Class Blog

Each week, usually on a Friday, you will find an update about our weeks learning and adventures! Within this class blog I will summarise what we have been up to in our lessons, inform you of any WOW moments from the week and also remind you of any useful information, whether this be homework or dates. This information will also be posted on dojo so if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me via dojo or email.

Wednesday 20th December 2023:

Happy Wednesday everyone!

Apologies for the length of the incoming message. You might want a biscuit and a cup of tea whilst you take it all in :)

I am not quite sure how we are on the final countdown to the Christmas holiday. I definitely feel like I have blinked and the first full term has disappeared in front of our eyes.

We have had an exceptional Autumn term. The behaviour in the class has been outstanding and each and every child has really settled and matured into Year 2 life. It's lovely when Mrs Robinson or Mrs Salt covers the class to hear the same wonderful comments about your children - they really do make us (and you) proud!

Celebration week this half term has been a success. Each child has made individual progress for themselves and rose to the challenge with positivity and an I can do it attitude. Their results whilst completing a nativity performance shows just how resilient and brilliant they really are. Their current progress and targets will be shared on an interim report with you in the Spring Term.

This week we are really getting into the Christmas spirit with festive themed English and Maths lessons, a Christmas story from our reading partners, present making in DT and KS1 party preparations pending.

A reminder that tomorrow is our Christmas party. Children can come to school in their party clothes and are required to bring a small plate of snacks. Please make sure this is named. Children will have their lunch as usual so small snacks is fine - vegetable sticks, sausage rolls, a few crisps and a treat etc. is plenty. My class have PE in the afternoon with an external agency so if they do not have sensible shoes on for outdoor PE please bring trainers in a separate bag.

On Friday I will be completing my PPA so Mrs Robinson has the honours of the final Christmas magic with the children. There will be biscuit decorating, crafts and lots more. On Friday children are also invited to bring a small toy or board game (no electronics) in for part of the day. This will form part of our celebration day that we missed when it was assessment week.

I am in the process of updating our webpage with key information for next term. Indoor PE will be on Monday afternoons and outdoor PE will be on Wednesday mornings. Our Indoor PE is dance and our Outdoor PE is Forest School. Please see the letter regarding Forest Schools as it contains information on appropriate clothings.

On a final note, thank you for the kind messages, cards and gifts that we have received this week, it really is appreciated. As I always say, ths is my job and it is an honour to teach your little ones and they bring us enough joy and happiness over the Christmas period so we really do not expect anything at all. All we request is that you all have a magical break with your loved ones.

Have a lovely Christmas and we wish you a happy and healthy new year. We look forward to continuing to work with you again in 2024.

Thanks,
Miss Bestwick :) x

Friday 17th November 2023:

Hi All,
Happy Friday :)
Just a little round up of our week in school.

In English we have been exploring different sentence types and completed our unit on multiplication and division in Maths. We have explored Parliament Week in PSCHE by taking a virtual tour around the House of Parliament and taken part in lots of different voting systems through school. In Science we have started to learn about materials and in Geography we have named and located the 7 continents and 5 oceans.

We have also had a really busy week beginning our nativity rehearsals in the hall. A HUGE thank you for your support with learning lines at home. We were blown away by just how many children already know them off by heart. We couldn't achieve this without your support.

This week we have had a few reading diaries missing in school. Please can we ensure that these are in school regularly as all children take these to phonics and require their diaries for reads with the teacher or TA.

My Maths Homework is set and ready to complete for this week. We still have a few outstanding My Maths homework from previous weeks. Please could these be completed by the end of next week as this will support with consolidation of learning ready for our celebration week (assessments) in week 5.

We have earned 15 minutes extra play time this week for having no children who attended reflection.

Maxwell is our winner of the half termly reading raffle. Names are already being added to the jar ready for the prize draw this half term.

Thanks and have a lovely weekend.
Miss Bestwick.

Friday 27th October 2023:

Hi All,

I hope you have all enjoyed a fabulous half term.

Thinking ahead to the new term, our new PE days are Wednesday and Thursday. Wednesday we will have Tai Chi sessions led by an external provider and will form part of our indoor PE sessions. Our outdoor PE will be led by Premier Sports on Thursdays. We are very lucky this term to have two experts teaching us new skills.

This half term will also be a very busy one with regards to our Christmas nativity practises. All children have been made aware of parts and those who wanted speaking parts will receive their lines next week. Where possible, please try to rehearse this with your child at home to enable them to become confident with these.

We will also have lots of additional fun this term with our Christmas church visit and within all our subjects too.

I will provide you with a further update of our term during the week
😊

A reminder that tomorrow is an INSET day and school is closed to pupils.
