Welcome to our class page!
We are a Year 3 class and our teacher is Miss Nadin.

6 Week Summer Challenge Booklet

We recognise that your child has worked extremely hard on their home learning and we want to give you the tools to enable your child to engage with their learning as much as possible leading up to the new school year.

In this booklet you will find a set of short tasks for your child to complete independently.

These tasks are completely optional as we understand it is the holidays.  However, we also recognise that some parents will appreciate some activities to give their children a focus over the 6 weeks holiday period.

The challenge booklets should be returned to school when your child starts back in September so their efforts can be acknowledged and rewarded.

There is no expectation to complete every task, every day. For example, you might choose to focus on 3 of the short activities per day leading up to the new school year.

I will be in school for a few days next week so if you would like the booklet printing then please let me know and I will get it printed for you ready to collect.

Every Friday, everyone will be given a list of 10 spellings which follow a set rule. These will be tested the following Friday. They can practise their spellings using their Spelling Shed login, where the spelling list will be added for them to play the game to earn lots of points!

Homework

Homework will be set on a Friday. The homework will be a short activity on either TT Rockstars, Spag.com or MyMaths. The children have their log in details for these in the back of their planners. If you need a paper copy of the homework then please just let me know.

Reading

Please read with your child as often as possible. If your child reads 3 times or more in a week they will receive a merit! Please record this in their planner.

Monday 2nd February

If you have any spare cardboard at home please can we have it to use in school? We are starting to make shields for the Lower Junior Performance so this would be very helpful! Shoe boxes/large cardboard boxes or similar are ideal. Not cereal boxes as we need proper cardboard!

More details on the performances will be coming out soon. I apologise in advance if the songs are already driving you crazy at home - it's only going to get worse as the weeks go on! :

It’s Anti-Bullying week! Everyday this week we will be taking part in anti-bullying awareness activities.

A reminder that it is Odd Socks Day tomorrow as our theme for Anti-Bullying week is change.

Some children have chosen to bring home an ‘Anti-Bullying Mentor’ application form to fill out. Anti-bulling mentors will have an important part to play in helping to support other children in the school. I have asked them to bring the completed forms in by Monday the 18th.

Friday 11th October

Happy Friday!

Another busy week in China!

We won the award for 'most quizzes passed' on Accelerated Reader in the Lower Juniors today. Next time we're aiming for the best accuracy on the quizzes!

For World Mental Health Day yesterday we used the book 'The Huge Bag of Worries' by Virginia Ironside as a discussion point. The children loved the book and I would really recommend it to encourage children to open up and talk about any worries they might have.

Over the next 2 weeks we are looking forward to taking part in Diwali celebrations! A visitor will be coming in to deliver workshops with the children in Year 3 which will include dancing, costumes and story telling. The children will then have the opportunity to showcase their dancing to parents in the evening on Wednesday the 23rd of October. The children will also be taking part in Diwali themed craft sessions. The artwork that the children produce will be taken to the reVive shop in Long Eaton and displayed in the window for a week for you to go and see. A letter will be going out soon with more details about this.

We have set another TT Rockstars battle between the two Year 3 classes as the homework for this week. We want to win again!

Thank you to all of the children for their hard work this week.

Friday 20th September

Good afternoon!

Thank you to the children for their hard work this week. Today they have written some top-quality diaries based on a short clip that we watched called The Lighthouse Keeper. They are all working hard on their handwriting and some children are now striving to achieve their pen licence.

Please don't think I have gone crazy if your child has come home saying that they have been making Christmas cards this afternoon. These are the ones that get sent off to be made into proper packs of cards for you to buy closer to Christmas. It did feel strange doing this in September - although I have noticed the shops are starting to get their Christmas chocolate in so maybe it's not too early!

I have set a TT Rockstars battle as the homework this week. This is a battle between the 2 Year 3 classes to see which class can accumulate the most points. The children can go on and any points they get contribute towards our China team on the battle to win 10 minutes extra playtime! The children will get a merit next Friday if they have been on TT Rockstars during the battle. They are starting to learn how competitive I am now so... WE NEED TO WIN!!

The children received a merit today for reading to an adult 3 times at home, another one for completing their Spag.com homework and one for going on Spelling Shed to practise their spellings. Thank you for supporting the children with these. Any problems with these then please let me know.

Have a great weekend!

Miss Nadin :)

Lower Junior Day

Friday 13th September

Happy Friday!

China have had a fantastic first full week in Year 3. Thank you to all the children for their hard work this week. I'm really enjoying getting to know them all.

I introduced the website/app Times Table Rockstars (TT Rockstars) today. This is a great website where they can practise their times tables both at home and at school. Their log in details for this are in the back of their red planners. I will set a homework on TT Rockstars at some point over the next few weeks but the children can access the website at any time even when a homework isn't set.

As you probably have noticed, I stick a homework slip in their planners every Friday which outlines what the homework is for that week. The homework will be a short activity on either Mymaths.com, Spag.com or TT Rockstars. The children receive a merit for completing their homework each week. If your child isn't able to access the website for the homework then please do not worry, just let me know and I can send a paper copy home with them! This week is a Spag.com activity. I will give out the Mymaths log in details when a Mymaths homework is set.

I'm really sorry about the Spelling Shed log in details - i'm still not sure why they weren't working! However, the children have now stuck a copy of their old log in details from last year over the top of the ones I gave out last week. These should hopefully work now! Any problems please just let me know.

Sorry for an overload in log in details!!

I hope everyone has a lovely weekend.

Miss Nadin :)

Tuesday 10th September

Hello!

We have had a fantastic start to Year 3 and I am really pleased with how the class are settling in and getting used to the new routines.

A big thank you for supporting the children with their holiday homework. There are some fantastic pieces of work and they have done some great research to support their learning!

We have finally completed all of the Star Reading assessments so the children will get their new reading books tomorrow. Thank you for baring with us with this!

I'm aware quite a few of the Spelling Shed log in details aren't working - really sorry about this! I will look into it and try and get them sorted for the spellings they receive on Friday.

Please don't hesitate to get in contact if there is anything that I can help with.

Miss Nadin :)
