Welcome to Autumn 2

Wow, our first half-term went so quickly! The children worked so hard and really showed us what they were made of. We are excited to be embarking on our geography knowledge block about volcanoes. We will be investigating how they form, where they are found and the impact of eruptions. We will discover why some people choose to live near to volcanoes and debate the positive and negative aspects. In addition,  the children will complete an explanation in English sessions to describe the stages of an eruption, focussing on using technical vocabulary and using the features of the text precisely to help the reader. 

Autumn 2 will be very busy as usual, with Bikeability, Diwali activities and Remembrance as well as all our usual learning. Please don't forget our class assembly has been moved to Thursday 19th November. We hope to see you there. If you'd like to get in touch, please send us a dojo. 

Welcome to autumn 1...

We are very excited to be learning about the Scots and Saxons and how the invasion impacted on Britain. We will be practising  skills in researching and investigating different sources of information. Explaining how and why will be a focus for our learning. In mathematics we will kick- start the year with place- value and number, as well as puzzles and problems to apply these. English lessons will provide lots of exciting challenges whilst we are beginning to investigate what it takes to be a year 5 writer and using our time to learn how to learn, and build on year 4 knowledge. This is just a little snapshot of what we will be doing in class, we can't wait to get started!
