Autumn

Welcome to Autumn 2

Autumn has well and truly arrived and we can't wait to get back to it. One of our favourite learning themes of the year is upon us in geography. Volcanoes, how they erupt and where they are located will be our focus before we move to how eruptions impact humans, the economy and the environment. We will also investigate the triggers for eruptions and delve into the world of earthquakes and tsunamis through real life case studies.

During science lessons we will move onto learning about animals including humans. The children will examine how humans progress through different stages of growth and life which includes discussing puberty. In English and maths sessions we will be doing some post teach learning to ensure the children are embedding the new year 5 knowledge we have explored in the first half term. We will moving onto writing explanations for volcanoes. We have a jam packed half term ahead of us!

Welcome to autumn 1...

We are very excited to be learning about the Scots and Saxons and how the invasion impacted on Britain. We will be practising  skills in researching and investigating different sources of information. Explaining how and why will be a focus for our learning. In mathematics we will kick start the year with place value and number, as well as puzzles and problems to apply these. English lessons will provide lots of exciting challenges whilst we are beginning to investigate what it takes to be a year 5 writer and using our time to learn how to learn, and build on year 4 knowledge. This is just a little snapshot of what we will be doing in class, we can't wait to get started!
