Christmas update

We have reached the end of what is always a busy term with a smile on our faces.
It has been busy but so many lovely activities have been shared that we head into the holidays with a real sense of our great school community.
The events organised by the PTA have been a great success. We fully appreciate the difference the team make to the children's experiences and also support the school with the things they are able to buy from the proceeds. So a big thank you to them from us.
The Key stage 1 Christmas performance was a delight - the children were so confident and obviously enjoyed the moment in the spotlight. The acting and singing, dancing and narration were all very well accomplished. We were very proud of each and every one. It goes without saying that this is quite a feat to pull of so we are grateful for our staff team who take these events in their stride and do so with loads of positivity! We're already looking forward to the Reception performance in the Spring term!
Talking of Reception, Miss Hutchinson is leaving us today and we wish her all the very, very best. Mrs Kittens will now take over the class full time so we know the children are in safe and familiar hands.
In today's assembly we celebrated the children who have achieved high word reading scores in accelerated reader ( one of the tools we use to encourage reading in school from year 2 upwards). As a school we know how important it is for children to develop a love of reading so build the vocabulary skills as well as their imaginations. Reading really is the gateway to so many other subjects and opportunities. I would ask that over the holidays a little time spent reading with your child and encouraging them to pick up a book in what can be a very hectic holiday would probably help soothe stress as well as support their reading prowess. Reading a story at bedtime can sometimes be difficult to fit in but the rewards for all concerned make it worth it. I know many of our parents factor this in to their child's routines and I would like all of our children to have these moments.
Although Christmas can be a wonderful time of year it can also be very stressful, particularly if there are money worries, illness or family disagreements, all of these seem to be bigger at a time of year when we are 'supposed' to be having fun!

So I will end my update with a big thank you for another term of community, hard work and positivity. I hope that you all have a lovely holiday and are able to spend time with loved ones -I know not everyone has an extended break but I hope you are able to enjoy the festive season in your own way.
