  • Checking in.

    Tue 31 Mar 2020 S Houseman

    Good morning all,

Just thought I'd do a general check in as I know that as time is going by more questions are being raised than answered as to how long we may be off school, out of work etc.

Thinking of the children whenever we return to school they will need a period of settling-especially if this isn't till September ( I certainly hope it isn't that long!).

In this scenario however we will ensure that the children have some closure time with their current class teacher and move on to their new class teacher to allow for some closure.

I am also very aware of the lack of closure that the year 6s might have in this case and we will definitely have an 'end of year' party/ disco for them once all is back to normal.

On another note there has been a fair amount of news about the rise of domestic violence occurrences in this very difficult time. If any of our parents have any concerns or worries please contact us and we will do everything we can to support you. Remember no-one can guess how people will behave in these uncertain times and we hope you know that we are in no way judgemental and are here to support you. Either email: headteacher@dovedale.derbyshire.sch.uk or call the school office.

    Take care everyone!

  • Friday update

    Fri 27 Mar 2020 S Houseman

    Good afternoon all!

I hope that everyone is keeping safe and well.

I would like to remind parents that there is always a member of staff in school that they can talk to if they need to and I will respond to any emails I receive. We know it is a very peculiar and stressful time and we wish to continue to support you through this as much as possible.

Remember that we are not expecting you to run a school at home! The off site work is there to support you and your child, to give some structure, broaden their knowledge and give you some ideas as to how to plan their day. Naturally as educators we want our children to keep up the progress they have been making but not at the expense of anyone's well being! Therefore please do not put any unnecessary pressure on yourselves with regard to the activities provided.

The pictures we have been receiving from the children (Headteacher updates for children in the children's tab) have shown us what a creative lot you are and how you are managing to keep yourselves and your children entertained.

We have loved seeing these and know that the children have loved seeing their friends.

    Keep safe and well!

  • Keeping in touch

    Mon 23 Mar 2020 S Houseman

    Good morning all,

I hope you are all keeping safe and well and following all the guidance to make sure we all continue to do so.

The off site learning is in the children's class pages and ready to keep the children's brains busy.

I have also put a page on to keep in touch with the children myself with some stories, assemblys and general activities. I have set up a new work email to be used by grown ups to share any messages from children for their friends or photos of some of the activities they are doing so that we can keep our community connected and entertained. The email for this type of communication is blog@dovedale.derbyshire.sch.uk. Please only share pictures if you do not mind your child's photo being on the website or twitter.

Please don't hesitate to contact me if you need any other support.

  • Key worker prioritisation

    Fri 20 Mar 2020 S Houseman

Due to the volume of parents requesting key worker places for their children we need to advise that in order to follow the guidelines for social distancing and to prevent the spread of the virus in the school setting we will be prioritising places throughout today.

We hope to have some clarity on this by the end of the day and will keep you informed as much as possible.

Please be reminded that this provision is supposed to be for essential workers whose children cannot be supervised by another adult in the home to protect both the children and their families and the staff in school.

  • Update to key worker information

    Fri 20 Mar 2020 S Houseman

Thank you for your continued patience.

The Government guidance on Critical Key Worker Roles was published overnight. This includes sectors and roles that meet the criteria.

The government has asked parents to keep their children at home, wherever possible, and asked schools to remain open only for those children who absolutely need to attend to continue to support social distancing and protect the children and staff.

Critical Sectors have been identified as:

    • Health and social care
    • Education and childcare
    • Key public services
    • Local and national government
    • Food and other necessary goods
    • Public safety and national security
    • Transport
    • Utilities, communication and financial services

If you think your role falls within the critical categories above you should confirm with your employer that your specific role is necessary for the continuation of this essential public service.

We will contact all key worker families who contacted us regarding a place directly when we have identified who needs to access this reduced provision in order to plan for staffing and limit social contact as much as possible. It may be necessary for us to seek clarification on why the 2nd household member cannot care for the child and we will continue to monitor this as the time goes on.

Parents of key workers attending the provision should also do everything they can to ensure children are not mixing socially at other times in a way which could continue to spread the virus. They should observe the same social distancing principles as adults.

I appreciate that there is a lot of concern and worry over what is happening, however my priority is to keep the children and staff safe at this difficult time and I thank all parents for their measured and sensible approach.
