Welcome to Blue Whale Class, which is made up of 30 Year 4 children. Our class teacher is Miss Barrett and our teaching assistants are Mrs Henson, Mrs Ashton and Miss Woods.

During the year I will post updates most weeks to keep you informed with what we have been up to in the classroom as well as share REACH certificate winners and homework updates.
Summer 1 dates for your diary:
- Wednesday 17th April - Parents' Evening
- Wednesday 24th April - Severn Trent assembly and Year 4 workshops, Expert Group Afternoon
- Monday 6th May - Off school for May Day Bank Holiday
- Wednesday 15th to Friday 17th May - Year 4 Residential to Mount Cook Adventure Centre
- Thursday 23rd May - Last Day of Summer 1
- Friday 24th May - Inset Day
PE days:
- Our PE days are Tuesday (outdoor PE) and Friday (Swimming)
- Swimming dates for Year 4's are as follows: 1st March, 8th March, 15th March, 22nd March, 26th April, 3rd May, 10th May, 7th June, 14th June, 21st June, 28th June and 5th July.
On PE days, children are asked to wear their school PE kit which includes a plain red t-shirt with our without the school logo, a plain black sports jacket/zip-up jacket and plain black or navy joggers/shorts.

This half-term we will be covering:
- History: The Romans (begin this term and continue in Summer 1)

- RE: Why can we learn from religions about deciding what is right and wrong?
- PSCHE: Growing Up
- Spanish: Clothes
- Computing: Photo Editing
- Music: How does music shape our way of life?
- PE: Swimming and TBC
Easter Holiday Homework set on 28/03/24
Each Friday one of the following activities will be set online:
- My Maths
- Spag.com
- TT Rockstars
Alongside the online activity will be the following:
- Reading (school diary signed 3 times for a merit)
- Spelling (see below)
- Learning times tables
Spelling lists of 10 spellings, following a set rule, will be given out each week. Each list will be given out and placed in reading diaries to learn by the following week. One way of learning the spellings can be by using their Spelling Shed account.
Most of the lists, aside from when we cover the Year 3 and 4 statutory words lists, have an extra 'super speller' challenge to think of three extra words that follow the same given rule to learn. If the children can spell the extra words correctly in their spelling test they can gain a merit!
