Reception intake 2021

IMPORTANT LETTER FOR STARTING BACK

Hello everyone,

We hope you are having a lovely summer and you may already be thinking about the return to school.

We can't wait to see you on THURSDAY 2ND SEPTEMBER 2021!

Just to remind you that all being well the school day starts from 9:00 am  - 3:15pm with the gates opening at 8:50am.

You will use the gates that you entered during your visits and are encouraged to drop your child at the gate to their classroom.

On collection if you wait outside your child's classroom (on the playground or on the grass) and your child will be in the line to come out to you. Please give us a wave and try and stand in a similar spot each day to aid with getting the children out quickly and safely - especially in the wetter months.

Please keep your eyes on your classes webpage for what we will be learning, pictures of the classroom and weekly stars of the week once school starts on Thursday 2nd September.

Enjoy the rest of your holidays.

Mrs Norton

Welcome to Dovedale Primary School. This web page is designed to answer any questions you may have regarding your little one starting school in September 2021.

It is here where we will let you know any updates regarding transition days and times, as well as parent meetings to welcome you to our school and give you all of the information you need.

It introduces the teachers and who they are, as well as gives you a tour of our classrooms. It also provides information on uniform and school dinners for you to look at. We do ask that all uniform is clearly labelled, as although children have a tray and a peg - they also leave their cardigan/jumper on a chair, which can become difficult to find the owner without a name.

There are links to letter and number formation as well as Derbyshire's ready for school checklist - so if your child can do everything on the list then they are as ready as they can be for school. If not you may want to work towards some of them to get them as ready as possible.

School provide children with their book bag when we give out books so there is no need to purchase another one.

I look forward to meeting you (hopefully face to face) very soon and am here to make your start with us as smooth as can be.

Mrs Norton

Hello Everyone,

Thank you for the successful transitions. We feel like we have got more of an idea of what your children are like. It has been lovely to see the children exploring our area and interacting with ourselves and their peers.

Please find below an information video to watch. Normally we would do these in school, however due to restrictions we thought it best for you to be able to watch it safely at home in your own time.

It is 35 minutes - so grab a cup of tea, and please feel free to email us regarding any questions which may arise.

Thank you

Mrs Norton and Miss Hutchinson

PE Kit is a plain red t-shirt, with black shorts, joggers and a zip up hoodie. If you have got plain white t-shirt do not worry, as they grow out of it please purchase a red one. We have changed to red this year but on the video I say white.

Thank you

Mrs Norton

Good Morning,

There will be a staff member to guide you and we will add some pictures to make it more clear.

A letter to prospective parents 2021

Hello!  I am Mrs Norton and I will be EYFS Lead in September and a class teacher. I will be in school Monday - Thursday, with  Miss Martin covering the class on a Thursday and Friday.  I am looking forward to helping your little one grow over the year and am excited to make memories with them that they will cherish forever as their first year of school.

INTERESTING FACT: I have driven a sub-scooter under the sea where I held a sea sponge and fed fish from my hand.

Hello! I am Miss Hutchinson and I am a class teacher in EYFS. I am so excited to meet you all.

INTERESTING FACT: Since I was a child, I have always loved whales and dolphins! I was really lucky to see a Humpback whale in Canada and then I got to swim with dolphins in New Zealand, which was just a dream come true.

Hello I am Miss Martin. I will be in Mrs Norton’s class on a Thursday and Friday and Miss Hutchinson’s class every other Wednesday. I am looking forward to seeing you all soon and getting to know you.

INTERESTING  FACT: I enjoy singing and playing the piano. I have a little dog called Basil.

TOUR OF THE SCHOOL

We have tried to do a tour of the EYFS learning environment, however due to the current Covid-19 learning environment, this appears a little daunting. For now, please have a look out how our classrooms looked previously to give you an idea of the learning areas that your child will be able to access. We will get a tour of the classrooms ready to show you where the toilets, cloakrooms, outdoor space and hand-washing  areas are.

Derbyshire County Council has produced a 10 steps of readiness leaflet for your child to making transition into school life a little easier. There is also a more child friendly version available. Both of these are good indicators on what your child can work towards now, to help them in their first few weeks and months back in school. Please see below for both versions.

We have had some emails to ask which reading scheme we use within school. We use Oxford Reading Tree. They start as picture books and gradually adding consonant-vowel-consonant words such as sat, pat, tin etc to them. Children should aim to recognise the letters individually, then blend them together to form the word. We have been looking online and at the moment Oxford Reading Tree have got a free sign up where you can log in and read some of their books for free. The link is below if you wish to do this! I was informed that there was an issue with the Free ebook link below. I have hopefully solved the problem. Fingers crossed!
