Y3 Giraffes

Giraffe Class is made up of 31 fabulous Year 3 children. Our class teacher is Miss Bestwick and our teaching assistants are Mrs Sedgewick and Miss Austen. We are also incredibly lucky this year because we have Mrs Spencer, a trainee teacher, who will be joining us on our learning adventures.

On our webpage you will find regular updates on our learning as well as useful information and important dates. Alongside this webpage, you will also have access to our class dojo where we will share regular updates with you so that you know exactly what we have been up to. Please feel free to send me a message on Class Dojo or via my school email (abestwick@dovedale.derbyshire.sch.uk) if you ever need to contact me.

Each term I will update this section of the webpage to ensure you are aware of any important upcoming dates. These dates will also be communicated via Class Dojo to ensure you do not miss any useful information.

The dates you currently need to be aware of for Autumn Term 1, are:

  • Wednesday 2nd September - INSET day
  • Thursday 3rd September - children back to school with previous year group teacher
  • Friday 4th September - transition session with new teacher
  • Friday 4th September - Virtual 'Meet the teacher' 3.30pm.
  • Monday 7th September - Start full time with new teacher
  • Thursday 22nd October - last day of Autumn 1

                                   150

Please make sure you have read the 'September opening' information before your child returns on the 3rd September. This can be found under the parents tab. In this letter you will find information regarding how school life will run, what your child can/cannot bring to school and other useful tips for a smooth return.

Reading books:

Children will continue using the Accelerated Reader scheme just like in Year 2. Your child can change their reading book as often as required. We ask that you sign or put your initials in their diaries when they have read at home so we are aware of how often they are accessing reading at home. For every 3 reads a child completes at home then your child will be awarded with a merit.

Spellings:

Each week, your child will be given a list of 10 words/spellings which follow a particular spelling rule. These will be tested on Friday of the following week. To help learn the spellings children will be able to access 'Spelling Shed' to play a range of online games.

Homework:

Alongside their weekly reading and spelling practice, your child will also be set some online activities linked to grammar and Maths. These activities may be set on MyMaths, TTRockStars or Spag.com. These websites were accessed during your child's time in Year 2 so shouldn't be anything new to them.

PE:

Just like in the infants, we will have two PE lessons a week. Our Indoor PE session is on a Tuesday afternoon and our Outdoor PE session is a Friday afternoon. Please make sure your child returns their PE kit after the summer break with the required clothes/shoes for both lessons. It would also be helpful if you could label each item of clothing to prevent any confusion between children.
