We are a Year 2 class and our teachers are Mrs Potter (Monday - Thursday) and Mrs Tomlinson (Friday). Mrs Robinson is our PPA cover teacher on Thursday afternoons. Our Year 2 Teaching Assistants are Mrs Henson and Mrs White.
Dolphins are friendly, caring and loving. They love working together as a team and recognise that every individual is unique. Although they are known to be the most intelligent animals on Earth, they also love to play and of course, always have the most wonderful smile!
Now, who wouldn't love to be a Dolphin?
Messages from Mrs Potter and Mrs Tomlinson
We've had a great start to our new school year and we feel very lucky to have such a lovely class of happy children who are so ready to learn.
As you know, our first week back at school was focussed on assessments and identifying gaps in children's knowledge based on Year 1 objectives. You will be receiving further information about specific targets we have identified for your child as areas that we will focus on across reading, writing and maths. We would be very grateful for anything you could do at home to help, and if you have any queries please do get in touch. Our aim is to close the gap between any learning missed or simply forgotten, so that by the second half of Autumn term children are back to where we would have expected them to be at the end of Year 1. If your child does not have a target for a specific area/s then this is because they have already achieved their end of year level, and if this is the case then please be assured that we are already working on Year 2 objectives with them.
You will be aware that Reading Diaries and books have been sent home. Some children have one of our new phonics reading books alongside a regular colour banded book. Please encourage your child to read both books at home. Some children have started on Accelerated Reader, whereby quizzes are taken at the end of each book to assess comprehension skills. If your child has just started Accelerated Reader you should have received a letter inviting you to join Renaissance Home Connect - this enables you to view their quiz progress and reading level. Please note that quizzes are completed at school and your child will continue to read every week with one of us.
In maths the children have been working very hard on place value and partitioning numbers. In literacy we are focussing on basic skills and using our class book, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory as a basis for writing. We are now up and running with differentiated groups for the teaching of both phonics and reading skills so that all children are receiving teaching and support at the level that is right for them. In science and PSCHE the children are learning about growing up, with science concentrating on how we physically change as we grow, and PSCHE being more about our emotional development. Our focus for Art this half term is Pop Art, and specifically Andy Warhol, and the children have produced some great self portraits and diptychs inspired by his style.
Thank you very much for your support - it is lovely getting to know your children and we look forward to meeting you properly soon.
