Y2 Dolphins

Welcome to

Dolphin Class!

Parents - please log in to our Offsite Learning page for current home learning. Thank you.

Please click on the button below to find a selection of activities for you to complete at home if you are currently self-isolating.

We are a Year 2 class and our teachers are Mrs Potter (Monday - Thursday) and Mrs Tomlinson (Friday).  Mrs Robinson is our PPA cover teacher on Thursday afternoons.  Our Year 2 Teaching Assistants are Mrs Henson and Mrs White.

Dolphins are friendly, caring and loving.  They love working together as a team and recognise that every individual is unique.  Although they are known to be the most intelligent animals on Earth, they also love to play and of course, always have the most wonderful smile!

Now, who wouldn't love to be a Dolphin?

Messages from Mrs Potter and Mrs Tomlinson

Happy New Year!

We hope you had an enjoyable Christmas break, thank you again for your lovely cards and gifts.

We are looking forward to an exciting term ahead! We are moving on from our 1960's history block to a geography focus for Spring term.  For the next few weeks we will be developing locational and place knowledge; using maps to locate and name continents and oceans, discussing features of those and also planning journeys.  Our main class book for this term links into this and is The Travel Book published by Lonely Planet Kids.

The first couple of weeks science work will complete our Materials block of learning, before we move on to Living things and their Habitats. At this point we will introduce a second class book, linking into the environmental theme. Our literacy work will draw from both of these areas of learning and will continue to focus on developing skills using travel and habitats as an overarching context for this.

In maths we will move into a Measure block, including weight, capacity, length, time and money. This will involve lots of practical work and there will be plenty of opportunities for children to be actively learning and having fun as they do so!

As mentioned in the message before we broke up, our PE is a little different this half term as we are lucky enough to have an outside provider for some of our sessions. The Derbyshire Cricket Foundation will be taking the last 3 outdoor PE lessons before half term which will take place on the Tuesday of each week. The remaining outdoor lessons will be on Monday and will be OAA (Outdoor Adventurous Activities). Our indoor PE is now on a Wednesday and will be gymnastics this term.

An updated version of our timetable for this half term can be found below.

We will soon be in touch with details of a new online homework resource. is designed to support literacy skills, specifically focussing on spelling, punctuation and grammar through quiz based activities. homework will be set fortnightly and will alternate with My Maths homework.  We will be in touch soon with details of how to log on and activities set.

Please don't hesitate to get in touch if you need to discuss anything.

Kind regards

Mrs Potter & Mrs Tomlinson

Our class book is:

The Travel Book published by Lonely Planet Kids.

This is a fantastic non-fiction book with a page devoted to each

and every country in the world, including information about

location, culture, population, flora, fauna and a whole host of

fun and interesting facts.

Out of school updates!

A huge well done to Henry!  Before the Christmas holidays he decided he wanted to do something to help poorly people and people who don't have enough food.  He decided to complete a sponsored run, and to donate the proceeds to charity. After setting himself the target of raising £15, he completed his charity run and ended up raising a whopping £150!!  Henry has decided to split the money between Clic Sargent and the local foodbank.

You are a superstar Henry, and we are all very proud of your kindness and achievement!

Look at what we have been doing at school!

The children have loved designing and creating their own Rangoli designs to celebrate Diwali.  Here are a selection of them.

The children have been working hard on these very beautiful and poignant scenes to mark Remembrance Day. Thank you to Mrs Robinson and Mrs Tomlinson for co-ordinating this.
