MONDAY 7th DECEMBER
Maths
To make addition fact familes.
A fact family is a range of calculations that you can derive from the same numbers e.g.
3 + 4 = 7
4 + 3 = 7
7 = 3 + 4
7 = 4 + 3
The same numbers are used but the numbers are in different orders.
Ask your child to find some small items/toys from around the house e.g. lego bricks, marbles, hair clips etc.
Give your child the calculation 5 + 2 =
Ask them to make it out of their objects. You could make add/equals symbols out of paper to put between the objects. e.g. 5 marbles + 2 marbles = 7 marbles.
Ask them to record this in their home learning book.
Now ask them to swap some of the numbers around and see if this calculation still works e.g. 2 marbles + 5 marbles = 7 marbles.
Ask them to record this calculation in their home learning book.
Now ask them to put the 7 at the start and make a calculation 7 = 5 marbles + 2 marbles. Record this in their book.
Ask them to swap the 5 and the 2 around - does this work?
Record this in their book.
Show your child the pictures. What calculations can they get from this? Fill in the gaps.
