The Autumn Term 1 curriculum will run slightly differently to what you are previously used to as we will be using a recovery curriculum. This means we will be focusing on bridging the gap, particularly within English and Maths, to ensure that we focus on the skills and knowledge the children have missed during lockdown. We hope this will help provide a smoother transition to Year 3 learning by ensuring we have revisited missed skills/knowledge from Year 2.
In the first full week of Year 3, children will be participating in assessments to help the teacher gain a better understanding of the children's gaps. These gaps will then inform the planning for English and Maths and we will plan accordingly. Alongside our recovery curriculum for English and Maths, we will also continue to cover other curriculum areas. In PSHE we will be exploring emotions and providing strategies to cope with different emotions. In RE we will be thinking about what it means to be a Christian in Britain today by exploring a Christians rituals at home and comparing to non-Christians. In Science we will be exploring forces and magnets so we can be prepared for lots of practical tasks! Our Indoor PE focus will be Gymnastics and our Outdoor focus will be Tag Rugby.
Please keep your eyes peeled for useful documents. Once we are aware of the gaps in your child's skills and knowledge, we will be updating our medium term plan and this will be posted on our webpage. We will also then upload some supporting knowledge organisers should you wish to access these at home.
