Each week, usually on a Friday, you will find an update about our weeks learning and adventures! Within this class blog I will summarise what we have been up to in our lessons, inform you of any WOW moments from the week and also remind you of any useful information, whether this be homework or dates. This information will also be posted on dojo so if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me via dojo or email.
Friday 21st January 2022:
Happy Friday everyone,
Firstly, I hope you all had the most wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all! Feels rather strange writing this now but I appreciate I haven’t spoken to any of you before we broke up for the holidays. Thank you to everyone for your patience and cooperation in my absence last week. I know the first week back ran smoothly thanks to Mrs Henson, Mrs Sedgewick and Miss Martin! This week it has been super lovely to be back in the classroom with the children. They have worked exceptionally hard and have been a pleasure to be around!
In English this week, Elphinstone class have been busy exploring the features of letter writing. Together, we have unpicked these features and enjoyed our very own pretend train journey to the seaside! On our journey we explored adventurous and powerful vocabulary and tried to create 2AD noun phrases. We built upon this in Friday's session by writing our very own letter to you based on our train journey.
In maths this week, we introduced formal written methods for division through short division, also known as the bus stop method. The children took to this like a duck to water on Monday and we were very impressed. Some difficulties started to arise in the latter stages of the week where we introduced carrying digits over. We will continue to work on this into next week. Please support your child at home with their ability to count confidently in 2s, 3s, 4s, 5s, 8s and 10s times tables.
Your child should have come home with a letter regarding the Festival of Light celebration in Ilkeston on Saturday 12th February at 2pm - 6.30pm. Next week your child will be participating in an arts day creating lanterns which will form part of the procession. Please support your child's work and if possible head over to the Erewash Musuem to watch the showcase.
Homework - Please continue to read with your child over the weekend and practice their new spelling lists. Our online homework task this week is My Maths. This task should consolidate the division knowledge we have been exploring so far this term.
Friday 14th January 2022:
All children in Elphinestone class have settled back into school routines well and behaved impeccably. The children have coped well with the absence of Miss Bestwick and have worked incredibly hard.
Homework - Please continue to read with your child over the weekend and practice their new spelling list. Their online task this week is on spag.com.

Wednesday 22nd December 2021:
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news!
To ensure the safety of children and staff, regretfully, the planned Forest School sessions due to start in January will be postponed till a more suitable and settled time regarding the pandemic. It is hoped that the sessions will still start in Spring term, just perhaps a little later than first originally planned but we will provide you with as much advance notice as we can.
We will be the next class to participate in Forest school so as soon as the school feel it is ok to then we will begin running sessions again.
Sorry to let the children down but with rising numbers of covid, we cannot afford for Miss Barrett to be mixing between bubbles as we want all children and families to remain safe and well.
