Friday 25th September
Another wonderful and busy week with our Polar Bear cubs!
We have completed our EY Baseline and we will be sending out individual targets next Friday to support the children's progression! Also, reading books, diaries and book bags will be sent home next week :)
I hope you all enjoy 'The Runaway Pea' over the weekend which we received from The Book Trust. I am looking forward to discussing the story on Monday and seeing if the children enjoyed it.
This week we have discussed the importance of sharing books together and caring for books. The children are encouraged to carefully turn the pages in the bottom corner and ensuring the pages are kept smooth and not bent backwards! They are showing this really well in the classroom.
At the beginning of the week, two apples, Bob and Pippy, appeared in our Curiosity Cube. We said really kind words to Bob and unkind words to Pippy. We looked carefully at how their facial expressions changed and how they felt on the inside after our word choices. Bob was really happy, however Pipette had changed because she was so sad. The children engaged with this really well and thought carefully about how kindness is so important towards others.
Also, a big congratulations to Evelyn for being our first REACH superstar this week! She has started school in such a positive and respectful manner and is consistently showcasing all our REACH values! Well done Evelyn!
Due to the current situation and not being able to invite parents into school for assemblies, our REACH assemblies are being posted on the website under the 'Children's tab - Mrs Houseman's updates for children'.
In Polar Bear class, our REACH stars will get the chance to take our Polar Bear 'Polo' home over the weekend to join you for lots of adventures. Then, on Monday we can share all the weekend fun by sharing 'Polo's diary!'.
Thank you for all your ongoing support. I hope you have a lovely weekend and family time.
Miss Hutchinson.
Friday 11th September
WOW! The children have completed their first full week at school already and they have settled in beautifully. It was wonderful to see the children independently walk into school so confidently and with beaming smiles too! Well done Polar Bear cubs!
All the children have been fantastic at learning our routines and been super at carefully washing their hands, at numerous times, throughout the day. At each dinner time, I have been so impressed with how all the children tried lots of different foods and used their knives and forks for cutting their own food.
This week, the children were introduced to our school values through our ‘superheroes!’ (Please see the photo on our Dojo page). They loved trying to spot where they were each day! We learned a new action for each value and discussed what they meant and how it could be achieved. Lots of ideas were given and many children are showing our values already which is fantastic! We found out that together the values spell the word ‘REACH’ and we discussed how using these values, we can reach for the stars!
Additionally, I have started ‘Baseline’ this week to identify the children’s current knowledge and understanding in order to progress and support the next steps in their learning.
This week, it has been truly wonderful getting to know our Polar Bear cubs and so many of you!
I am looking forward to another positive week with Polar Bear class.
Many thanks, Miss Hutchinson.
