Home Learning for w/c 08.06.20
Please find below an overview of activities that we hope the children will be able to enjoy.
Each week we will focus on a different country, and this week we are learning about Brazil.
It might be useful to make the first Geography lesson the first activity you do. This involves locating Brazil on a map and thinking about it's proximity to us. Hopefully you will either have your map from last week that you can use, or you have something at home to help with this activity. The maps from last week are below if you need them again.
When you have done this have a look at the Brazil flag and have a go at drawing one yourself.
Reading Comprehension – Rainforests. There are 3 different levels of text for children to choose from, then answer the questions.
Writing – The Amazon Rainforest is under threat. Use the information from the reading comprehension to make a poster to raise awareness of this problem (see separate notes).
Spelling, Punctuation & Grammar - SPAG.com task: Noun Phrases and Compound Nouns(B). A paper copy is also included below if needed.
Writing – Descriptive Writing – Watch this video about the Rio carnival: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3-03w8JF8bg Then choose one of the Carnival photos and describe what you can see (see separate notes).
Handwriting – Practise using all cursive joins by writing complete sentences. See the notes attached.
Please see further resources below to support these activities:
As we have already covered all of the Year 2 objectives for maths, these activities have been chosen to practise skills and deepen understanding.
This week we have included some Multiplication and Division revision lessons. Knowledge organisers are attached to help support these activities. We have also included some multiplication and division questions from previous SATs papers. Feel free to use the organisers for this activity also if they are needed, or alternatively you may wish to see how well your child can answer the questions unsupported.
Please begin each activity with a title so we know which one you are doing, and write your answers in the green book. Where applicable we would like all children to attempt the ‘Mastery’ tasks, and those that would like to challenge themselves can then answer the ‘Mastery with Greater Depth’.
Answers for these tasks are also included below.
Times Tables and My Maths activities are detailed in the overview. A paper copy of the My Maths activity is included below if needed.
Other curriculum areas
Please use your judgement as to what to put in the book as it may not always be necessary / appropriate. Remember you can email photos to us, which would be lovely to share with the children and look back on when we are back at school and celebrating all their hard work!
Science - Animals including humans - Animal babies. Use the knowledge organiser to help you.
Look at the PowerPoint presentation. Go through slides 1-9 and then solve the crossword.
Activity 1: Animal babies crossword
Activity 2: Now go through the rest of the slides and then choose an animal and draw their life-cycle. You can also do some research before you draw the life-cycle to help you label the stages.
Challenge: Compare that life-cycle with the human life cycle.
Geography – Watch this great video about the Amazon Rainforest: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JEsV5rqbVNQ
Can you write at least 2 facts about the size, climate and wildlife of the Amazon Rainforest?
Challenge: can you write about the different layers of the rainforest? See separate notes.
PSCHE- Safety at home. Look through the PowerPoint. Discuss it with your family members.
Draw a safety poster to show how you can keep you safe at home.
