Welcome to Times Square Class!

with Miss Barrett & Mrs McGowan

Welcome to Times Square class in Year 4. In our class we have not one, but two teachers! Miss Barrett teaches us at the start of the week and Mrs McGowan teaches us from the middle of the week onwards. We also have support from Mrs Styring, our super teaching assistant, during the week.

Throughout the Summer term, our learning will be based around the theme of "Eurovision".

Each week either a MyMaths or a Spag.com activity will be set for children to complete by the following week. 

 

Please practise the current term's spellings and your times tables, and remember to read to an adult 3 times each week.

(To be awarded 5 team points, an adult needs to have signed the planner 3 times in the week).

Summer 1 WK6 (18th May)

Well done Israel for winning Eurovision! We are still getting our heads around the lyrics and arms around the chicken actions. 

 

We had an amazing week, finding out about the Royals and about English traditions and pageantry.  The lower junior children looked absolutely wonderful on Friday; it was a royal riot of rich colours that culminated in a "hall" banquet! Thank you all so much for the generous food donations. 

Your children loved it!

The excitement about Eurovision continues and we have our designated countries to support.

Summer 1 WK4 (4th May)

We've preened our hair for sparkling photos and continued some amazing work on Eurovision as well as Sound.


Congratulations to this week's Star, Aidan, who has been recognised for going that extra mile in his learning and sharing such enthusiasm in many different subjects.

Summer 1 WK3 (27th April)

PGL arrived!  Times Square, Stone Henge (and many of the adults) conquered fears, made new friends and realised a new found ability to hunt missing socks!  It was an amazing experience, with brilliant PGL hosts and your children were an absolute credit to the school and their parents.  We continue to be very proud.

 

Congratulations to this week's Star, Tobin, who has been really pushing himself to maximise his writing time in literacy and created some very descriptive pieces of work.

Summer 1 WK2 (20th April)

This was the pre-PGL week and it goes without saying that there is a mixture of excitement and nerves.  It will be a truly amazing experience and there will be lots of familiar teachers to guide and encourage our wonderful Times Square children.

Summer 1 WK1 (13th April)

This week we kicked off our new topic "Eurovision" with a WOW Art day.  Times Square children have created some dazzling flags related to an array of countries taking part in the singing competition.  It was fantastic to see all the innovative ideas for the Eurovision costumes.  The children looked amazing!


Congratulations to this week's Star, Lacie, who has been a constant role-model in Times Square and is always pushing herself to achieve the best she can.

Spring 2 WK4 (23rd March)

Well done to all of our children for their super performances in the many concerts!  We are very proud of our multi-talented Year 4's.  Now you can have a well earned rest over Easter!


Congratulations to this week's Star, Izaak, who has been a great support to people in Times Square and has also been really pushing himself to achieve in last week's assessments.

Spring 2 WK3 (16th March)

We are looking forward to next week's concerts. The children from Year 3 and 4 have been working incredibly hard to practise and remember their lines. You are definitely in for a musical and comical treat!


Congratulations to this week's Star, Jack, who has been a great support to people in Times Square when we looked at money problems. We welcome a good team spirit and taking on challenges.

Spring 2 WK2 (9th March)

To end this week, Times Square had an outdoor adventure in the Willows as part of their Forest School experience, and enjoyed listening to various stories as part of the World Book day celebrations.


Congratulations to this week's Star, Sam, who has been a great support to all people in Times Square.  We welcome a good team spirit and a positive attitude.

Spring 1 WK7 (12th February)

It was brilliant to have Severn Trent Water in this week for a WOW event to our Land and Sea topic. We had a whole school assembly and a class workshop. 


Have a lovely week off over half-term, we look forward to seeing you again on Monday 26th February. There are lots of things to look forward to already including Forest School, World Book Day and our Pirates vs Mermaids concert.   

 

Congratulations to this week's Star, Ocean, who has been thinking about our classes health and wellbeing. She was very kind to write us our own personal 'name' acrostic poem.

Spring 1 WK6 (5th February)

We have been very lucky to have another teacher start with us this week, Miss Oak-Smith, who is a student teacher from Sheffield Hallam University. She will be working with us and teaching our class up until June.

Spring 1 WK5 (29th January)

A huge well done to everyone that auditioned for a speaking part in the concert on Wednesday. Congratulations to those of you that were successful in securing a role and also remember, there will be more parts to come...

 

We also had a bread-tastic afternoon with Warburtons, where we got to make yummy pizzas.

 

Well done to this week's Star, Isla, for always aiming high and demonstrating our school's REACH values.

We have done lots of researching this week, which includes research on Pokémon for our explanation texts and UK hills and mountains for our Topic work.

We have been busy learning the songs for our concert this week. Please use your lyric booklets to also practise at home.

Spring 1 WK2 (12th January)

We have had yet another eventful week with cycling, hurdling drills with an Olympic athlete and begun our new topic: Land and Sea.

 

Please can you remember to fill in your water diaries over this month.  Let's see how we us our water!

Autumn 2 WK7 (15th December)

What a great end to the week, with festive jumpers and a Panto too (thanks to the hard-working PTFA).

 

For homework, there will be no SPAG or MyMaths activity during the holidays, but please do continue to listen to reading, practise spellings and times tables.

Autumn 2 WK5 (1st December)

Well the time has finally come… The class assembly parts and song have been revealed, in readiness for next Thursday’s big performance.

 

Please can you help your children practise their lines and importantly, to project their voices. The song, “Just like a Roman,” can be found on youtube under SingUp. We’re sure if you asked, that your child would give you a sneak preview.

 

For homework, please continue to listen to reading, practise spellings and times tables, and support your child with their SPAG activity.

Autumn 2 WK4 (24th November)

We ended the week, sitting pretty and handsome, having our pictures taken. During the rest of the week we have been roving reporters, editing our Newspaper reports.

 

Preparations for the Christmas Bazaar are in full swing, with the class toiling away on various crafts. I’m sure it will be a pleasant surprise.

Autumn 2 WK3 (17th November)

We’ve proven ourselves to be rather talented in many skills; dabbling in construction, acting, as well as comic art!

 

The basis of our writing, and artistic endeavours, have been based on the Graphic Novel “Amulet” by Kazu Kibuishi. We’re sure, if you asked your children about it, that Times Square could entertain you with their version of the story so far…

This week we’ve been introduced to where the ancient Indus Valley trade started and been working hard on creating colourful geometric art.

We’ve had a colourful week continuing to decorate our Firework display lanterns. Remember, if you can, to visit West Park Firework display this Saturday where all our marvellous creations will be showcased!

We’ve had a crafty end to the week, with lantern making for the West Park Firework display on 4th November and near completing our chariots.

Times Square were a colourful class today for the Dress in Colour day and we were awarded extra playtime for good comprehension in our Accelerated Reader quizzes.

We have had an active week with National Fitness Day and basketball training, Alien Maths and entering the NHS drawing competition about keeping healthy.

This week started with all Lower Juniors working together and sharing interesting facts about themselves. A fantastic demonstration of hoop skills also earned Times Square extra break time.

What a busy week! We’ve met roaming Romulus, felt the “force” and are getting into the “Year 4” swing of it. Now all we have to do is see where our Roman Trade and Transport topic will take us to next...
