Mount Kilimanjaro

Welcome to Kilimanjaro Class!

Miss Berrington & Miss Cholerton

Year 3

We both love teaching and think we make a great team. Miss Cholerton is an avid football fan and will always support her TOP TEAM Derby County…up the Rams! Miss Berrington is being educated about football (by Miss Cholerton) and is enjoying this new hobby! She is also very passionate about the Great British Bake Off and Strictly.

Miss. Cholerton teaches during the first half of the week and you will see her in school Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Miss. Berrington teaches during the second half of the week and you will see her in school Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. We will check planners on a Monday and Friday, so please leave us a note if you wish. Our focus for homework this term is Mymaths, times tables SPaG and reading. PE kits will need to be in school on Mondays and Thursdays. Homework and My maths will be given out on a Friday.

Our Easter Production

We are so excited to be bringing you our performance of Mermaids and Pirates at the end of this term. Our rehearsals are in full swing, and we are really pleased with how the children have thrown themselves into the process and shown a very mature attitude. Details about ticket sales will follow soon…

Spelling tests will take place every Friday after the first week. 10 random spellings will be tested each week from the year 3 list. Our objective is that children will begin to internalise the spellings they need to know, rather than just learn a new list each week for a test. Please do not worry if your child has low scores to begin with, we will see progress as the term continues.

Our new topic for this short half term is Language. We will be discovering how language has changed and developed over time, from ancient ways of communicating such as cave paintings to how modern English has been shaped by different invaders and settlers. We will also study Macbeth and write our own play scripts as well as look at the rhyming couplets Shakespeare has become so famous for. We will use our maths skills to plot the advancement of language in time.
