Big Ben

We are Big Ben class!

This webpage has been designed by our class. We are a caring, creative and clever class of Year 5 Children. We are dedicated to work and achieving many great things!

Our effort levels are spectacular. We are always aiming high together and have an I can do it attitude!

This is the place to see what we have been up to in Big Ben class and to find all of our homework.

World Cup 2018

This Half Term we have been learning about Russia as a country and the vast area it covers. We'll also be looking at the different countries involved and sorting them out into their respective continents. We've all now got a team so can cheer on for them as well as England throughout the World Cup!

22nd June

Our concert is beginning to come together now which is great news. The Year 5's are doing brilliantly learning the moves to the dances. Feel free to ask your child for a sneak preview of them! Don't forget to get your tickets using School Money. Things are starting to get incredibly busy at school with concerts and other things on so there won't be any homework set from now on. This week was assessment week, we had lots of excellent results across our subjects and year 5 made me a very happy teacher. Thank you!

8th June

A busy first week back! We've started to learn our songs for the concert this week and we also kicked off our world cup topic with a class sweepstake, each child drew out a team for the world cup some were pleased others not! Next Tuesday we have a cricket coach coming in from Trent College to deliver a session with the children, then by the end of the week concert rehearsals will be in full flow. This weeks homework is for children to learn the words to the songs!

24th May

This Half Term has flown by, it only seems like a couple of weeks ago that we had our Easter Break. We've looked this week at converting between measures such as metres and kilometres or grams and kilograms. We reached the end of our class text Boy in the Dress and we had lots of successful quizzes passed after we had finished. Next Half term is the last, but also by far the busiest. We'll be starting work on the upper junior concert, have sportsday, the summer fayre and a whole lot more! Have a great half term whatever you plan on doing.

11th May

In art we have been making Stonehenge out of clay ,most people have finished and they are waiting to superglue the different pieces together ,other people are still moulding the clay into the shape but will be finished soon. We have also been making our own fossils and are waiting to see the finished result. In maths we have been reflecting and translating shapes which is lots of fun! In Literacy we have been looking at the features of a play script and writing our very own about what we think will happen next in boy in the dress. We do this thing called word of the day where we pick a word out of the folder and we have to make a sentence with that word in but there is also a challenge along with the word, who’s up for a challenge? In topic we have been learning about the Bronze Age, we answered some questions about bronze, metal and the beaker people.

14th April

We all had a great time at our Holes trip at the playhouse, thanks for taking the children to and from the playhouse. We had lots of tired children the next day but they got on with their work exactly the same, well done! Ellie, Sophie and Joe represented the school in a swimming gala and all did really well. They all won at least one of their races! The school finished 4th out of 9 other local schools. We attempted to make our balloon blasters with the plastic bottles but it didn't exactly go to plan, we'll try again at some point!
