We are Big Ben class!
This webpage has been designed by our class. We are a caring, creative and clever class of Year 5 Children. We are dedicated to work and achieving many great things!
Our effort levels are spectacular. We are always aiming high together and have an I can do it attitude!
This is the place to see what we have been up to in Big Ben class and to find all of our homework.
LAND OF THE FREE!
Our topic for the first half of the Spring Term is Land of the Free. We'll be heading stateside to look at all things America. We'll look at Rivers, Landmarks, States and much more! We kicked off our topic with an America day. We had great fun visiting some famous landmarks, taking quizzes and seeing how many states we could remember! Pictures from the day are below.
Class Assembly Blog
We hope you all enjoyed our flight across America for our Class Assembly. The children did an excellent job putting it together in such a short space of time. I think we may have some budding composers, gymnasts and actors in our class! Thank you for providing them with props, costumes and for coming to the assembly. Michael was right, it was a "really great" turn out!
We have been looking at HTML code this week and have been getting up to some mischief! We edited the Sydney Opera House class page and changed some of the wording! If you want to have a go at home the following link has all the instructions. https://goggles.mozilla.org/
Feel free to email me your published creations at firstname.lastname@example.org
Mixed Numbers and Improper Fractions were on the menu this week, Year 5 did brilliantly and made it look simple! We have been planning our own version of the Holes story this week ready for writing it up next week. Our Forest School session took place in the morning this week, we enjoyed building dens, rope swings and climbing trees! In Science we carried out an experiment to see what impact the time of day had on our shadow. Another busy week ticked off. Next week is assessment week!
"Fractions are easy!" Probably words you wouldn't expect to come out of a 9 or 10 year old's mouth. The children have listened intently, put into practise their learning and have fully embraced our fractions work so far which makes me a very proud teacher! In Literacy, we are making our way through Holes (the book that is) and have enjoyed everything we've read so far, many of us are looking forward to our trip to the playhouse to see the stage version! This week we have been focusing on how to convey description to the reader by showing not telling! Finally we battled through the elements to hear a fantastic presentation all about space at TLES, the children represented the school impeccably on Wednesday. A credit to you!
It feels like we've back at school for a lot longer than a week and a bit as the children have picked up from where they left off! The children have shown their patience and flexibility during bikeability week as it hasn't been a normal week, if there is such a thing! Thank you to parents for bringing the bikes in!
